’TIS THE SEASON TO BE KIND
’TIS THE SEASON TO BE KIND
Hello Scenic News readers, I’m Rebecca from Naturally COS. And in this edition, I want to share some super easy ways to be kind during this weird, wonderful, crazy festive season.
It might sound a bit odd, right!? An entire article on being kind. But in the last week I’ve witnessed some acts of simple kindness that made people cry (happy tears), and on the flip side I’ve seen some displays of rudeness that border on cruelty.
Now, I am not an advocate for behaving differently on certain days. R U OK Day, Christmas etc, we should be doing all the good stuff on all the days. BUT alas, here we are. And sometimes we need a little tug on the shoulder to say, be kind.
Christmas, like any other day can be rough for any of us, for any reason. And it’s amplified by all the love and joy being sprinkled around. So, let’s create more of it and create more smiles.
It’s hot, I get grumpy and next-level impatient in the heat. Imagine the posties, chefs, gardeners, mechanics, tradies just to name a few. It’s been on average 30 degrees lately, which is enough to make you dehydrated, feel flat and possibly dizzy and get a bit moody. Consider gifting them a bottle of cold water, an icy pole even. Or if you’re on a budget, say thanks. Literally walk up to them, with a smile and say thanks for being in a role that’s hard on your mind and body to help us enjoy Christmas. This is not a suggestion for those who believe in the “they chose the job, so too bad” line.
Shopping in air conditioning? The staff might not be hot and bothered, but I bet they’ve had more than a couple of people say unpleasant things and be cruel. Consider having some Christmas cards, even tags made and in your bag. With a thank you note. “Thanks for working through Christmas to create a magical one for us”. Maybe even attach a candy cane. Once they’ve served you or even guided you to what you were looking for, give them the tag or card. And again, smile.
Want to go next-level, have an Esky at your door or near your letter box. Put a sign up that says “Merry Christmas, please take one”. And inside are frosty drinks and lollies covered in ice.
Small tokens of humanity, kindness and practical treats will not only help boost their spirits, keep them hydrated, their cups (metaphorical ones) full and make a huge overall difference. Kind of like letting another car or two in front in traffic. It’s a ripple of effect.
In next week’s edition, the Christmas cheer keeps coming. I will be sharing some incredible small businesses with some unique, practical and wellness-related gift ideas. Perfect for showing some kindness, especially at the last minute and supporting some small, incredibly wonderful small family businesses.
Till then Elves, go and get out there and spread some wonderful magical Christmas cheer. And if you do, share the photos with the editor – I’d love to see – and celebrate you!
