Column: Community Care - CENTRE-BASED DAY CARE’S SOCIAL SUPPORT PROGRAM
With regard to social needs, this aim is effectively addressed through a structured system of Centre-Based Day Care for TMCCA clients held every week through the year at 42 Southport Avenue, Eagle Heights. The Social Support Program includes:
• Gents' Group - second and fourth Mondays of each month
• Friday Friendship - every Friday
• Wednesday Outing – first Wednesday of each month
• Movie Afternoon – second Wednesday of each month
• Coffee Club – third Wednesday of each month
• Carers' Morning Tea – last Wednesday of each month
• Table Tennis – every Thursday
The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought these social groups to a grinding halt as Government restrictions jammed the brakes on social gatherings. Families (basic social unit) could not gather to celebrate births nor to commemorate deaths. Gradually, as humanity fumbled to find a way through this ‘liminal space’ a social isolation tunnel insulated with repetitive, negative media messages, mental and physical wellbeing.
