COUNCILLOR’S COMMENTS – AMANDA HAY
COUNCILLOR’S COMMENTS – AMANDA HAY
These are my own personal views. I do not purport to speak on behalf of Council. Decisions of Council are made only by majority vote, legislative authority or under authority delegated by Council.
Development Applications: MCU22/088 MCU Short-Term Accommodation & Function Facility at 84 Eagle Heights Rd. This application was on the Agenda for Council’s Ordinary meeting of 9 May with a recommendation for approval. Unfortunately I was unable to vote as I have a Prescribed Conflict of Interest as I made a submission when this Development Application was publicly advertised. At the time of writing, the vote was yet to occur.
Out and About: I attended ANZAC Day ceremonies at St Bernards State School and Tamborine Mountain College and it was rewarding to meet committed teaching staff and such self-confident students of all ages. I also attended the Dawn Service and the 11.00am service (as usual).
I have had discussions with residents in relation to Land Valuation Objections (although this is not a Council matter), attended the Long Sunset event at Elysian Fields, fielded and directed enquiries re:- potentially non-compliant land uses and attended the official Commencement of Construction Ceremony for the now-named Teviot Park international standard equestrian centre project which was funded by the Federal Government, and delivered on time and on budget by the Boonah Show Society Inc. My riding boots came in handy although they have not been near a horse for a while!
On Saturday 6 May we were honoured to have our SRRC official Town Crier, Syd Norman, make two official cries on Gallery Walk to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III. Visitors to Gallery Walk were keen for a photo opportunity, and Syd certainly knows how to draw a crowd!
Community consultation: The Draft Budget and Capital Works Program community consultation session held on Thursday 27 April was well attended by approximately 40 people, indicating once again our community’s strong interest and participation in matters affecting our future. The meeting went an hour over time, such was the number of questions raised. I also attended similar sessions held at Boonah and Beaudesert.
Consideration of Received Public Comments and Submissions Regarding the 2023-2024 Draft Budget: For those interested, the submissions made are available on Council’s website (141 pages) and can be found at: Late Items Agenda of Ordinary Meeting - Tuesday, 9 May 2023 (infocouncil.biz) There are some very interesting comments.
Date claimer: On Wednesday 31 May 2023 Council will be hosting “Cuppa in the Communi-tea” outside the library in Main Street from 10-11.00am. You’re invited for a cuppa and a chat.
“Collect your free Native Tree Tubestock, get your free Disaster Preparedness Kit, meet other service organisations and local community groups, view Council’s new e-Plan and your free property report, talk to ADA Australia, your age and disability advocates, batteries and mobile phone muster collection point and much more.”
I will be attending and will be available for one-on-one discussions or just a chat following that event.
Who knew there would be so much reading? Council workshops and Ordinary meetings can have agendas and reports which are several hundred pages long.
I can be contacted on 0448 376 650 or via e-mail at amanda.h@scenicrim.qld.gov.au and will soon also have a Councillor facebook page.
