BACK TO CRUISING
BACK TO CRUISING
Watching the footage of the first Australian cruise ship to enter Sydney Harbour in a very long time is a joy. Much maligned at the beginning of COVID, the cruise industry has spent the last two years addressing issues and introducing new protocols. Cruise ships have been operating globally throughout the last two years. The larger ships paused their operations and restarted mid 2021 – almost a year ago.
Amongst the new protocols are the requirement for all crew and every passenger to be fully vaccinated and tested regularly. Medical services have increased. Hospital-grade air-conditioning has been installed, requiring fresh air to come on board and then be expelled rather than circulated. Hygiene protocols include cabin cleaning, and everything is done to prevent any possible cross-contamination. Self-service buffets no longer exist, replaced by crew serving you from behind glass barriers. I think cruise ships are going to be some of the safest places to be!

P&O’s Pacific Explorer, which entered through the Heads to dock at Sydney’s Circular Quay on Monday morning, will, in fact, be based in Brisbane, offering regular round trip cruises from our new cruise terminal, which was completed during COVID and is yet to host its first ship. How easy to drive up the road and jump on! With the Welcome Home Sale, fares from under $90 per person per day – this really represents a great priced holiday.

The Coral Princess will also be based year-round, sailing from Brisbane, as will Carnival Spirit. This coming summer sees Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas also offering cruises from our home port. Judging by the number of bookings, these cruises are going to be extremely popular, so if you are thinking of hopping on board, I will urge you to make a booking soon so that you aren’t disappointed.

Cruises are such great value, with all meals included in the tariff, comfortable accommodation, unpack once and visit numerous ports, evening entertainment and shows, on-board activities and peaceful spots to relax. Over the coming summer, Australia will be home to a wide variety of cruise ships – fun ships offering excellent pricing, small expedition ships exploring areas less travelled and luxury cruise ships offering the best service in the world.
