BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE!
BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE!
And yes, I did just quote a Frank Loesser song. But it’s cold right? And on the Mountain? Yikes!
You might remember in the last edition I discussed the benefits of natural collagen, the broth-based variety. This is incredibly useful now since it’s freezing. Those hearty vegies and meaty bones are packed with nutrients and vitamins to help your immune system kick some goals and fight off those horrid germs floating around. Plus, they taste delicious and are incredibly comforting.
Whether you love the chilly breeze and a crackling, stocked fire with a comfy blanket, you’re probably not a fan of the sniffles, coughing, head colds and feeling ordinary. And another unpleasant treat for those of us with existing respiratory issues – this weather seems to amplify it.
My goal in life is to create remedies to avoid the doctor as much as possible and keep my mind and body as naturally healthy as possible. My household is notorious for asthma, wheezing, coughing, runny noses –
all the fun stuff. And given 3 out of 4 of us are chronic asthmatics with serious breathing issues when unwell, I researched what natural remedies might help. And the research highlighted how toxic their mass-produced counterparts could be.
If you suffer from breathing and respiratory issues, I recommend avoiding ingredients like Benzene, Levomenthol and Turpentine to name a few. These ingredients and many more have extensive research behind them to suggest they affect lung health.
On the other hand, if you’re looking for ways to support lung health then I highly recommend Eucalyptus (and oldie but a superior goodie), Siberian Fir Needle and Spearmint, again just to name a few. I spent the better part of last year researching and formulating an Organic Chest Rub and Nasal Roll On to contain these blockbuster ingredients. Because for me, the options that I saw were not conducive to lung health.
Another handy tip I learnt was coughing: coughing is good. It’s your way of pushing that germ out. When my daughter is unwell and chesty, we provide regular lung therapy (light and medically trained specific taps on her back) which breaks up the mucus and encourages her to cough it out. And garlic – another oldie but a fantastic goodie.
And please know, these methods are mine: I trust them for myself, my family and my customers. They may not be suitable for you or your family. Always do what’s right for your circumstances. Always ask questions, knowledge is always the key!
Before I go, if sickness has got you beat and you’re starting to feel deflated, you’re not alone. I like to investigate the source of an issue and work from there. My good friend, Evie Ryan Naturopath shares a similar value. So, if all else is failing, it could be worth a chat to a Naturopath.
I am off to have my 15th cup of tea to warm up, and like always, please share kindness like it’s
jam on toast.
